Medical transcription course provides basic skill and knowledge required to transcribe healthcare dictation delivered by the concerned medical professional. All the curriculums are designed with the aim of preparing a student to face initial stage hurdles of medical transcriptionist in the industry successfully. Most Medical Transcription schools follow the curriculum that is designed and approved by AAMT specifying some essential requisites for successful MT training. Some of those widely followed by reputed schools are: minimum 400 hrs theory classes, 600 hrs of practical sessions. These equally stipulated sessions are delivered on regular basis over six months period. The MT course covers some following major topics:
1. English:
English as a language and its correct application including writing style, grammar, punctuation, spelling correction and proof reading
2. Medical Knowledge:
Medical terminology related to general medicine, physiology, general surgery, medical specialties, anatomy, surgical specialties, interventional procedures, diagnostic, pathology, laboratory medicine, imaging techniques, health and wellness, medications and alternative medicine etc. are taught. Use of medical language using proper prefixes, suffixes, root words, combining forms, plurals, eponyms, homonyms, abbreviations, acronyms, antonyms, phrases and synonyms etc is also taught. Under this unit, common tests of pathology, diagnostic indications, expression of values, pharma terminology, techniques, Drug classifications etc are also told.
